The first month of school has officially passed ! We are so proud of the big leaps the third graders are taking everyday ! They have completed 2 online MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests for Language Arts which they all took for the first time and have been very busy with new lessons in class as well. Here's a recap of what we have learned this week:
Math - We have learned about place value , reading and writing bigger numbers and rounding off to tens or hundreds.
Language Arts - We have launched both reader's and writer's workshop with a blast. In Writer's workshop, we are working on personal narratives or true stories that capture the reader's attention . We have added a lot of entries in our writer's notebook and now we have finally chosen which seed story or idea we'd like to take through the writing process to make the best book ever ! In Reader's workshop, we are establishing rules and routines and getting to know everyone in our classroom reading community.
Social Studies - We learned many key ideas about communities this week . We talked about citizens, qualities of a good leader, rights and responsibilities of citizens , government and laws. Everyone was an active participant in most of our discussions.
Organization 101 - Using calendars to organize schedule, using desk trays to classify our desk materials, compiling portfolio binders(3B) and organizing expanding folders (3A)
